The territory of the DOQ Priorat is small and unique. Twelve wine-growing villages put together a wine-growing framework enclosed between the Montsant mountain range and the mountain chain Serra de Llaberia. These mountains separate the territory of DOQ Priorat from the Mediterranean Sea. The territory of the DOQ Priorat is a mountainous unit with 2,200 ha of production where 459 sites gather in one of the most prestigious vineyard territories in Spain. Currently, 117 small wineries produce wines with artisan care, prestige, and a high international presence.

The Regulatory Council of the DOQ Priorat drives the 6th edition of Espai Priorat, an international event whose aim is to invite a group of winemakers to discover and live together for 3 days with the viticulturists and oenologists of Priorat’s territory. This project stands out the singularities of Priorat’s wines, which are the fruit of a rugged territory, mostly marked by the “old” slate soils where the vines are grown. The Grenache and Carignan are the majority and predominant varieties in this South East basin of the Mediterranean side.

The geographical area that gathers DOQ Priorat is unique with its continental microclimate with a Mediterranean influence, which shows a millenary winemaking tradition. It’s in these small villages that Espai Priorat will be developed with the objective to show each of the stories and curiosities of these places.

Espai Priorat is a project promoted by the Regulatory Council of DOQ Priorat and has the support of the Generalitat de Catalunya through the line of European aid managed by the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda.

In previous editions, internationally recognized professionals such as Sarah Jane Evans or Ferran Centelles have been some of the ambassadors of the event, and this year Pedro Ballesteros MW will be the ambassador.
